What are Open Access publications?

Open Access publications are content available for consultation and download with no charge.

What is a DOI?

DOI (Digital Object Identifier) is an alphanumeric code that identifies digital content and provides a persistent link for its location on the Internet. A DOI follows its respective digital content regardless of where it is placed on the Internet and allows it to be located and cited.

What is the purpose of registering on the website?

Your registration will allow you to shop on all three LIDEL Group websites. To place an order, you will not have to enter you data again as the information you entered during registration or the information used in the last order will be applied automatically. 
However, you can change the information whenever you want. Your registration will also allow you to review past orders and manage your favourite book list.



How can I register myself on the website?

To register, open the New registration page and fill in the required fields. After completing registration, you will receive registration confirmation by email.



Can I change the data of my registration later?

Yes, you can change the registration information anytime you want. To do so, log in on one of the LIDEL Group websites and in your account, access the Edit Data page. You will be forwarded to LIDEL's website, where you can change your information.



I forgot my password. How can I retrieve it?

If you forget your password, go to the Login page and enter your email in the appropriate section ('Forgot your password?') so we can send you an email for retrieving your password.



Are privacy and safety assured when I’m entering my personal information on the website?

The privacy and security of your information is of the greatest concern for the LIDEL Group. For more information, see Privacy and Security Policy.

How can I subscribe the newsletter?

When you register on the LIDEL Group websites, you have the possibility to subscribe our newsletter. As an alternative, you can enter your email in the Newsletter section on the left-hand side of the LIDEL Group website pages.



How often will I receive the newsletter?

The LIDEL Group newsletter is sent once a month. Occasionally, you may also receive newsletters with promotions and other special campaigns.



Will the newsletter inform me only about books related to my interests?

If you have subscribed the 'Technical Books' newsletter, you will be notified of all new publications from the several Group brands, and as such of a variety of topical areas in which we publish. 
You may also receive newsletters with promotions and other special offers.



How can I cancel the subscription of the newsletter?

At the end of every newsletter you will find a link to cancel your subscription.



How can I download additional materials that are part of my book?

I cannot find the additional material for my book. What should I do?

How can I download additional materials that are part of my book?

Additional materials and audio files are available for download on the respective book's pages. As an alternative, you can download the additional materials of your book on the  Downloads page, where you need to enter the ISBN and answer a few questions.


What is the back cover of a book?

The back cover is the back part of a book, which typically features the presentation text (blurb) of the book as well as the barcode and the publication's ISBN code.



I cannot find the additional material for my book. What should I do?

If you cannot find the additional material and audio files that you are looking for on the  Downloads page, the material probably refers to a book that is no longer available for sale. If your book is old or out of print, the additional materials will no longer be available.

How do I order a book?

I am in the 'Shopping Cart', but I want to add more books to my order. Can I leave my order?

How do I order a book?

To order a product, you must be registered on one of the LIDEL Group websites. You need to add the book to your 'Shopping Cart' by clicking the 'Buy' button next to the product. As you add items to your order, the value of your order will be updated in the upper right corner of the page. When you finish your order, click on 'Shopping Cart' to be redirected to LIDEL's website, where you can see your complete shopping list. LIDEL is the official distributor of PACTOR.



I am in the 'Shopping Cart', but I want to add more books to my order. Can I leave my order?

You can leave your order whenever you want, provided you haven't completed payment yet. You may add and remove items to/from your Cart and resume the ordering process. Any items that you have already added to your 'Shopping Cart' will remain in the Cart.



What does 'Subject to Confirmation' mean?

A product stating 'Subject to Confirmation' means that the stock is limited. If your order cannot be completed by the estimated due date, or if it cannot be completed altogether, you will be notified by email within two working days.

If it isn't possible to deliver an order that has already been paid for fully or in part, the value of the undelivered product will be refunded within 15 days at the most. You may opt for receiving the amount through a shopping voucher to be used on one of our websites, or by bank transfer to your IBAN account.



What payment methods are supported?

You can choose between the following payment methods: credit card, ATM or Bank Transfer. Orders placed using the ATM and Bank Transfer methods will be valid for a period of 15 days. If no payment is received within that period of time, the order will be cancelled.



How do I know that my order has been completed successfully?

As soon as you complete your order, you will receive a confirmation email with the description and quantity of all ordered products, your billing and delivery details and the amount to be paid. You should keep this message until you receive your order, as it is your proof that the order was placed successfully.



I couldn't complete the order process. Does the website keep a record of my uncompleted order?

If you cannot complete your order, you may finish it at a later time. After logging in on one of the LIDEL Group websites, your 'Shopping Cart' will show a list of any products you may have added previously.

How do I use my shopping voucher?

After moving on to your 'Shopping Cart', you will be prompted to enter your voucher code. The voucher amount will be deducted from the total of your order. You can only use one voucher per order.



How many times can I use my shopping voucher?

The terms of use of your voucher vary according to the information provided at the time you received it. For more information, please contact by email: livraria@lidel.pt


What is the difference between percentage voucher and fixed-value voucher?

Percentage vouchers represent a percentage discount that will be applied to your order. This discount may not be combined with any other discount, so if there is a promotion, the website will choose the most advantageous situation for you.
Fixed-value vouchers represent a sum of money that will be deducted from your order. If you decide to use a voucher whose value is higher than the total amount of books ordered, there will be no refund of the difference.
Vouchers are non-refundable and may not be converted to cash.



Can I use my voucher to buy used books?

Only fixed value vouchers may be redeemed when purchasing used books.

What is the amount of the shipping charges?

Shipping charges are calculated based on the delivery address and the total weight of the order. During the ordering process, after entering the delivery address and before accepting and completing the order, the shipping charges to be paid will be shown.



Which company will deliver my order?

The company that will deliver your order depends on the delivery address.
If your address is in Continental Portugal, orders will be shipped by a courier company. For Madeira and the Azores, orders will be shipped by CTT. 
Orders to be delivered to other countries are shipped by a courier company or by CTT, depending on the chosen destination. During the ordering process, after entering the delivery address and before completing the order, the shipping method and shipping charges will be shown.


How long does it take for me to receive my order?

The time for delivery of an order varies according to the delivery address. Refer to the average reference times below, considering that they count as of the date when the order was paid.

Continental Portugal: Up to 5 working days.
Madeira and Azores: Up to 7 working days.
Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Estonia, France, Netherlands, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, United Kingdom, Czechia and Sweden: 5 to 7 working days.
Bulgaria, Croatia, Finland and Romania: Up to 9 working days.
Other countries: 8 to 20 working days.



My order has not arrived. What should I do?

If receiving your order is taking longer than the stated time, contact us via email at  livraria@lidel.pt (national orders) or depinternacional@lidel.pt (international orders).

Can I cancel my order?

The possibility to cancel your order depends on the status of the order. To make a cancellation, you should send an email to livraria@lidel.pt (national orders) or depinternacional@lidel.pt (international orders) stating the number of the order you want to cancel. In case that you order has already been shipped, you cannot cancel it.

In which situations can I exchange/return the products I purchased?

After receiving your order, you have up to 14 days to exchange/return the products. In case your order has been done in a promotion period, it is not allowed to return the products, but only to exchange them. Refunds of eBooks and interactive books are not accepted.
The products for exchange/return must be in perfect conditions, as they were delivered, keeping the original packaging and with the respective two copies of the invoice.
To make an exchange/return, contact us via the email livraria@lidel.pt (national orders) or depinternacional@lidel.pt (international orders), stating the reason for exchange/return and the number of the order.

In case of exchange/return, do I have to pay for the shipping charges?

Yes. The shipping charges regarding exchanges/returns are paid by the client, except in the cases in which the product(s) received do not correspond to your order or have printing defects.

In case of return, when and how will I be refunded of the amount paid?

After reception of the returned products, the client will be refunded within 15 days, at the most. You can choose to receive the amount through a shopping voucher to be used in one of our websites, or by bank transfer to your IBAN.
There will be no refund for lost products during the return process, i.e., products that have never been received at the LIDEL Group storehouse.

The product I received doesn't correspond to what I ordered/the product I received has printing defects. What should I do?

In case of one of these situations, contact us via the email livraria@lidel.pt (national orders) or depinternacional@lidel.pt (international orders), explaining what happened and stating the number of the order.

a) What eBook format is provided on the LIDEL Group websites?

The available format for sale is VBK. This format is specific for the online/offline reader application from VitalSource Bookshelf used by the LIDEL Group. It has similar features to an ePub or a PDF, accordingly with the information available on the title presentation page. The maintenance and technical support of Bookshelf is under the exclusive responsibility of its proprietary, Vitalsource.

b) What does "Available for XX months" mean?

If the eBook you want is identified with "Available for XX months" it means that the access to it will be available for the number of months specified after purchase.

c) Is my device compatible with the eBook format?

Yes, the VitalSource Bookshelf application is available for Windows, iOS e Android.

d) Do I need to install a reader application in my device?

Yes, you should install the VitalSource Bookshelf application https://bit.ly/_Bookshelf.

e) On how many devices can I access the VitalSource Bookshelf application?

VitalSource Bookshelf allows that you have two computers and two devices activated at any moment. If you want to activate a computer or a mobile device other than the already activated ones, and you have already received the error message 'You reached the maximum number of activations', you can remove an older computer or mobile device from the activation list in order to activate a new one. To do so, sign in to the VitalSource online area and in the upper right corner click the managing account icon (represented by a doll). Then, click devicesand deactivate the desired device so you can add a new one. To add a new device, sign in to the VitalSource Bookshelf application on the new device.

f) How do I buy an eBook?

To buy, choose the eBooks tab on the left side of your screen and in the desired subject area, you can see the available eBooks. If there is an eBook version of one of our printed books, this option will be displayed on each book's page above its title. After finding the desired eBook, click the 'buy' button to add the eBook to your shopping card. You cannot buy more than one copy of the same eBook.

g) Which are the available payment methods to buy my eBooks?

You can only buy eBooks using a Credit Card. As an alternative, you can use the MBnet system after registering at an ATM terminal.

h) Can I buy books and eBooks in the same order?

Yes, but in this case, payment will have to be via Credit Card or MBnet.

i) How do I receive my eBook?

After validating payment of your order, you will receive a confirmation email with the required access credentials (username and password) for the VitalSource account, as well as a link to access the VitalSource login area. After logging in with the credentials provided in the email, you will have access to your library where the purchased book will be available. For safety reasons you should change your VitalSource password. From that moment on, you can read your eBook online. To read your eBook in offline mode, follow the steps set out in l).

j) How do I receive my invoice?

If your order has only eBooks, the invoice will be sent to the email address providedduring your registration in the working days after the purchase. If the order also includes printed books, the invoice will be sent to the delivery addresstogether with the merchandise.

k) How do I read an eBook online on a computer, tablet or Smartphone?

To read an eBook online on any device, open the following link: https://bookshelf.vitalsource.com/#/user/signinand insert your email and password. After logging in, you will enter your library where you can choose the book to read.

l) How do I read an eBook offline on a computer, tablet or Smartphone?

To read an eBook offline on any device, open the following link: https://support.vitalsource.com/hc/en-us/articles/201344733-Bookshelf-Download-Pageand download the reader application for your device. After installing the reader, you need to log using the same email and password from VitalSource in online mode to access your library. The library will synchronise giving you access to the purchased books.

m) Are my eBooks always available after the download?

After synchronising your library in the VitalSource Bookshelf application, you will have your eBooks available. If you have acquired an eBook identified with "Available for XX months”, the availability of your content will end after number of months indicated at your purchase.

n) Can I print, copy or share my eBook?

The options to print, copy or share your eBook are not available.

o) How many times can I download the same eBook?

You only need to download your eBook once, as you will have to log in in the VitalSource application on each one of your devices and, after synchronising the library, your eBook will be available.

p) Can I return my eBook and receive a refund?

No. After delivery, an eBook cannot be returned as it is a digital product. Due to the digital format of eBooks, downloading it will be considered as 'opening the package', and after that moment, it is no longer possible to return the product.

q) I don´t live in Portugal. Can I buy eBooks on the LIDEL Group websites?

Yes, but there may be restrictions to the sale of eBooks to certain countries due to publication copyrights. If a product is not available for your country, you will receive a message during checkout saying 'The purchase of the following product(s) is not allowed for the selected country.'

r) Are there limitations to use my eBooks?

For LIDEL Group eBooks, it is not allowed to print or copy text, images or tables. Also, it is not possible to search the tables of some LIDEL Group books. You cannot zoom in on images in some of the LIDEL Group books.

s) What can I do with my eBook?

- You can browse the content table to get faster to the chapter/section youwant;
- You can search for text and terms;
- You can highlighttext, which will then appear in the 'Highlights' section;
- You can take notes, which willthen appear in the 'Highlights' section;
- You can increase/decrease the font size;
- The selected text can be read out loud using the 'start reading' tool (via machine automatic reading) on your computer;
- You can access all books in 'My library'.

A) What are used books?

Used books are books which may present one or more small defects, due to in-store browsing and display.

B) What kind of damage can a used book have?

Used books may be sunned, rubbed, have a small tear, a dinged corner, a creased spine, or other defects.



C) Do the above mentioned conditions prevent or difficult reading?

No. We only sell used books in either good or very good conditions.

D) Do used books have missing pages?

No. In terms of content, used books are exactly like new books, but with the possible defects described above.

You need to fill in the form available in the Author Area. Your proposal will be analysed by our Editorial Department, which will later contact you.

What is the LIDEL Group?

The LIDEL Group is Portugal's leading editorial group for technical books, consisting of the publisher and distributor LIDEL and the publishers FCA, ETEP, PACTOR, fcadesign and LIDEL saúde e bem-estar. To know more about our Group, see  About us.

Which are the LIDEL Group websites?

The LIDEL Group websites include the website of our publisher and distributor LIDEL (www.lidel.pt), the website of our publisher FCA (www.fca.pt) and the website of our publisher PACTOR (www.pactor.pt). 
After registering on one of the LIDEL Group websites, you can use your information to access any of the other Group websites. 
Distribution and sale of the books available on the three websites is handled by our distributor LIDEL.



In which areas does LIDEL Group publish?

Where can I buy LIDEL Group books?

In Portugal, LIDEL Group books are available in all major bookstores and at the LIDEL bookstore in Lisbon (see location).

Our books are also available in several online bookstores and on the LIDEL Group websites. On www.lidel.pt, you can find all books published by the Group; on www.fca.pt and www.pactor.pt, you can access the books published by our publishers FCA and PACTOR, respectively.



Which publishers are distributed by LIDEL?

In addition to distribution of the other publishers in the Group, LIDEL is also an exclusive representative in Portugal of books from renowned technical international publishers, such as Encyclopédie Médico-Chirurgicale, Georg Thieme Verlag and Saraumps Médical. 
We also distribute publications from some Portuguese publishers, as for example Profedições, Ordem dos Médicos, among others.

What is the ISBN?

The ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is the exclusive number that identifies a given publication. You can find your book's ISBN book on the back cover next to the barcode. In case of eBooks, you can find the ISBN in the credits.



What is the Law on Fixed Book Prices?

The fixed-price law determines that a book cannot be sold to the public with more than 10% discount on the Retail Price set by the publisher, in the first 24 months after the date of its first publication, except exclusions defined by law.To know more about this legislation, see the Portuguese Association of Publishers and Booksellers website.
